Shabnam not only continues to be the most ever popular Superstar, Heroine and Performer in the nearly 40 years long history of Pakistani Cinema, he has made everyone inside and outside Pakistan accept and appreciate her outstanding acting abilities and skills. Shabnam was active in the Pakistani film industry, Lollywood in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, and in the Bangladeshi film industry in the 1990s. Born in Dhaka, formerly a part of Pakistan called East Pakistan, she was considered a versatile, romantic and most popular actress in both West Pakistan and East Pakistan in her time.

SHABNAM is actually her Film-name. her real name is ''JHARNA BASAK' She belongs to hindhu religion.Date of Birth August 19, in the 1944s. Her father is Nani Basak, the well known Scout master and football referee from Dhaka. Shabnam is married to Robin Ghosh ( a well known music composr of Pakistan). Her first film is ''HARANO DIN'' released in 1961 in DHAKA.She was introduced in urdu films by making urdu film ''CHANDA''.She came in Pakistan's cinema in 1962 and role the Pakistan film industry since 1961-1997. Shabnam plays the leading role in Aina; which holds the distinction for being the longest running Pakistani film on record.1960's popular song 'Socha tha piyar na karenge', picturized on Shabnum with Waheed Murad in film Ladla, written by Kaif Rizvani made her very popular. Around 1988 she switched on to character acting and was again doing films in her native Dhaka and Lahore. During her career of nearly 40 years she acted in about 180 movies which included innumerable hits. She won the coveted Nigar award 13 times and also bagged the Pakistan National Award thrice. Her last film was the Bangla super hit "Amma Jan" (i.e. 'Dear Mother')1999, a Dhaka production in which she performed the title role. She is now settled in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Shabnam lastly performed in movie 'Aammajaan,’ directed by Kazi Hayat. She performed in that movie in the central role and it was released in 1999. Now she lives in her NATIVE CITY DHAKA BANGLADESH.
